I have tried many different non-prescription sleeping pills, and the one that works the best by far is Unisom. It works so well I have to cut them in half or I sleep for 12+ hours and still wake up feeling drowsy! But make sure the active ingredient is doxylamine succinate, not diphenhydramine hydrochloride. (Unisom comes both ways.) Diphenhydramine is the active ingredient in the majority of the OTC sleeping pills; it is also the same active ingredient as Benadryl. Sweet dreams!

i use melatonin. its OTC and it works great. i take 1mg tabs, but they come in 1mg, 3mg, 5mg, and 10mg i believe (i could be wrong, but there are different strengths available). 1mg puts me to sleep within 15 mins, but if i take two tabs (2mg), i am OUT for hours. the nice thing about it is if i sleep 6 hours, when i wake, im not groggy.
you can buy these at walgreens, gnc, cvs, etc.
they also have dissolving tabs, but i think those are only at gnc (cherry flavor!)

Drink a big glass of milk before you lie down. Milk has the same thing in it like turkey has. Both have a substance in them that will make you drowsey. If you are planning a long driving trip or something stay away from dairy and turkey until you get where you’re going.

Many people have weird scary dreams with Melatonin, so beware. Valerian is a great help and available at the health food store.
How about a nice bath or massage with lavender oil and a warm glass of milk?
