So i just moved into my new apartment. I was already aware of thin walls, anything else is just outside my price range. but really thins walls, like hearing tvs and conversation and all that jazz. Anyways, I know living on the bottom, you have to expect noise. I am a mom of a 7 year old and choose not to live upstairs, so i don’t have to worry about shooshing my kid if he walks to loud or bangs a drawer ****, etc. but it seems my upstairs neighbor’s social life takes place in here room after 10pm til whenever. Sunday night was her gab fest with i think her girlfriend. Man, were they having some great laughs til midnight! I finally just went and slept on the couch. Tuesday i wasn’t home so who knows. And then wednesday night was the boyfriend (or some random guy.. who knows). It was awesome laying there with my eyes closed, about to fall into oblivion for 8 hours, when I’m suddenly thrown into an almost instant heart attack when someone slams something into the ground. I look at the clock… 10:30pm. And then they spend the next hour and half banging sh*t and laughing and having a great ol time! And then they do the nasty and of course i hear that! Which totally sucks, but then again it’s not their fault i guess. So after a few that torture is over and then i guess they figure they’ll chill and watch tv. Once again, I go and sleep on the couch around 1 am.
I totally understand it’s hard for everyone with thin walls, but i am a considerate person, and i have lived in an upstairs apartment at one time, and i remember being very considerate with noise levels. And i wouldn’t mind the noise so much if it wasn’t late at night and i have work the next morning, and i now i’m on total sleep deprivation. I my view is a decent person would be aware of the fact that maybe it’s a little rude to be acting like it’s 2 or 3 in the afternoon when it’s really not! So… now i guess i need to talk to the landlord cuz i don’t think it’s fair that i am tired and miserable and can’t focus at work due to lack of sleep, but i’m not sure if i have a valid complaint. Suggestions???

I had a similar problem. After one rowdy party one Friday night. I decided to get up at 8am and practice my trumpet…really loudly. Nothing cures a hangover like a trumpet.
Honestly thought, if you can’t resolve your problems by talking to your neighbours, then call the land lord, it’s his job (or the superintendents) to take care of noise complaints (they may even evict),if that doesn’t resolve the issue then call the police.
