It can be. I would say to you that the medication we are given, should depend on our symptoms and how good your doctor is with his/her diagnosis. We see our doctor and just expect we will be given the most appropriate treatment for our presenting symptoms.
Sadly this is not always the case.
All depends on the skills of the doctor you see, to correctly diagnose your symptoms, then prescribe the most appropriate or combination of medication for those symptoms..
It is just a fact, that finances will denote, not only how we are treated, but also the medication we are prescribed..
It will also, because of finances, influence our “priority” status.
So, back to your question..
The best information I can offer you is..
Yes, sometimes one particular drug will be offered, “used” for both depression and anxiety..
The effects of any antidepressant will vary from one person to another..
The SIDE EFFECTS will always be listed within your prescription.
If you are taking an antidepressant, read through the side effects carefully. You must be sure that you are well aware of these side-effects so you can understand, know why you may feel as you do.
If you are taking any drug for the first time, it can cause several changes to your system.
Make sure you have knowledge of what you are taking, and why you are being prescribed that drug…
In the first few weeks of taking an antidepressant, it can appear to escalate your symptoms, that will pass. After 4 weeks or so, the drug should begin to help alleviate your symptoms..
If you have been prescribed the most appropriate medication, you should feel more calm, more able to cope with your situation, and yes, in some cases it can help you to sleep..
Hope this helps you a little..
Take care..
Anti-anxiety, and Anti-depression medication are definitely not the same. Anxiety medications are narcotics, and are very dangerous. They can help if you have severe anxiety attacks like I have. They work to calm you down but doctors only like to use those as a last resort. Anti-depression pills are not narcotic, and they’re thought to help correct a few things that are thought to be related to depression.
they can be just depression or they can be for depression and anxiety disorders depends on their makeup (ingredients) but yes if someone has prescribed ‘effexor’ say for depression they will normally prescribe ‘effexor xr’ for anxiety related disorders which may also include depression too.
the way i understand it is say you have ocd which is an anxiety related disorder then you obsess about rituals and have major anxiety depending on your surroundings
and so the way the meds work is they produce anti obsessional behaviour so rather than obsessing you will be less worried about the issues which usually trigger anxiety in you.
for me it helps me sleep earlier as when im anxious i cannot fall asleep as my heart races and my thoughts dont stop and my head pounds.
i also wash if i am anxious and it gets worse if something really bad happens but if i take my meds all the time my showers cut down fro m 1.5hrs to 35 mins and i get out feeling clean but not raw from cleaning my body.
it helps stop me feeling too worried or self conscience and it helps me see my friends more because im not anxious, worried, or at home obsessing.
that does not mean all ppl with anxiety have ocd like me but i was just trying to make it easier for you to get what the effects have been like for me,
hope it helps xo
yes it is the same medication. but it depends what you suffer from. I suffer from anxiety and am on tablets for now. They are technically anti depressants, but as my body needs help with anxiety, that is what the tablet targets. They relax you, they just help you to control yourself in an attack.
No they are not the same although some antidepressants have an anti anxiety effect too – some of the SSRI group tend to have calming properties whereas the older types tend to make you sleepy. Anti anxiety pills are things such as Diazepam, Busperone and Lorazepam and are different entirely
Some yes, but some are not. There are certain medications that are prescribed only for anxiety, and there are those for multiple symptoms.
