I don't know if you would be able to get a legal Rx for Adderall just to help with school.
Stimulants like Adderall will help people stay up late and, in some cases, go for days without sleep (especially at high doses).
On a very technical level, stimulant don't exactly enhance memory. But because people study more efficiently, have better concentration, and can study longer they tend to remember things better.
It is very common for people to get prescriptions or buy Adderall to help cram for a test and yes it will probably be helpful.
However Adderall is a mixture of amphetamine and dextroamphetamine (aka speed). Amphetamines can cause psychological dependency. A physical dependency of sorts can occur. When the drug is stopped people can become depressed, have hypersomnia (sleep 10+hrs/day), and experience muscle pain. If Adderall is not abused this typically lasts for a week or less, if at all. If abused more withdrawal symptoms can occur. Amphetamines have a high risk of psychological dependency partly because amphetamines release more dopamine than any other drugs. And that release of dopamine is the primary cause of addiction.
In reality when people take Adderall at a prescribed dose for a legitimate problem the risks of abuse/dependence or very low. Risks become high when amphetamines are taken at very high doses and/or used IV. And there are risks of heart problems, insomnia, anxiety, agitation, nausea, OCD-like behaviors, weight loss, loss of appetite, hypomanic-like behaviors, and several other things. Long tern use at high doses are neurotoxic and can cause brain damage.
When used as prescribed side effects are mild and tend to go away with time.
Statistically if you did not abuse Adderall and took a dose of 30-40 mg or less daily you would probably not have problems. But you certainly could. And for some people it can be very serious, especially if you get Adderall without a prescription. I won't deny that Adderall can help with school but taking Adderall should not be taken lightly, even for a few weeks. And people who have no medical use for Adderall are at a higher risk of abuse.
I take a very large dose of Adderall (60 mg/day) for ADHD and a sleep disorder but I have a serious medical problem and I see a doctor monthly.
I'm certainly not going lecture about the "evils of drugs" but be careful.
