Changes in environment can trigger migraines. Changes in cabin pressure, humidity, and so on, as well as changes in activity level (sitting for long periods, etc.) can trigger them.
However, do make sure it’s a migraine. If you are simply getting a massive headache each time you fly, it could be sensitivity to high altitudes, which in some case can cause serious problems. If it goes away when you drink a bottle of water, it’s probably dehydration.
If it happens regularly, and nothing makes it go away during the flight, but it resolves once you return to the ground, it might be altitude sickness. Ask your doctor about it in this latter case; he may want to screen you for cardiovascular or respiratory problems, and he may also have suggestions on how to work around it (such as bringing oxygen on a flight, if the symptoms are serious enough to warrant going to that much trouble). Most people aren’t bothered by the relatively mild changes in pressure inside the cabin, but some are very sensitive to it.
Drink a LOT of water before you get on the plane. Plane air is very, very dry and when you get dehydrated you will get headaches. Continue to drink water during the flight. Do not drink any caffeine or alcohol, since this will dry you out. You could also take a dose of aspirin or Tylenol before hand, just to be sure. Also, you may want to chew gum to prevent pressure build up in your skull and your ears “popping” as you change altitudes. I fly a lot, this is what I do, and it helps.
Believe it or not, sometimes chewing gum works(: Haha, it may sound sillyy but it works for me. It might not always work though. But especially during landings, i chew gum BEFORE a headache starts.
hope i helpped!
