Do You Think It Was Ok To Breastfeed After Taking This Medication?

I have a cold with a lot of congestion right now– at night I can’t sleep because I’m constantly coughing. I am breastfeeding my 11 month old twice a day, once in the morning and once at night, so I never wanted to take any decongestants. But last night at 11pm the coughing was so bad I finally broke down and took ONE tylenol sinus pill. At 8am this morning I nursed my baby. Do you think this was OK?

If you're still in need of sleep, I recommend the Natural Sleep Made Simple guide. This book contains natural, totally safe, and PROVEN methods that will let you get to sleep every night with ease. Money back guarantee.

Boy I hope so, I am in the same exact position as you. I have a cold and breastfeed only 2-3 times a day. I have been taking Advil Cold & Sinus and I was just hoping that since I didn’t breastfeed often that I could get away with it. I am miserable!

You should be fine. I have no facts to back it up except that it probably cycled out of your body by then. Also, I know I will get thumbs down, but I dont believe in being miserable while you are breastfeeding. You need to breathe and sleep comfortably in order to have the energy to take care of baby. If taken in moderation, then I see no problem in taking a cold pill once in a while if you’re sick.

the meds in tylenol sinus are approved by the aap for use in breastfeeding mothers, however be cautioned that your milk supply may decrease a bit. if you are only nursing 2 times a day though, i doubt you’ll notice it. both my kids were nursing loads more than 2 times a day at only 11 months old.

“Do you think this was OK?”
Goodness yes.
Do some reading — from reliable sources — and relax. Most drugs are quite safe.

Should be fine. Tylenol is safe, and antihistimines/cold meds are only of concern because they may reduce your supply.
Feel better.

It’s fine. The only reason they caution about decongestants is that it might reduce your milk supply. It’s perfectly safe for the baby.
