They can stop working if you are on them a long time. I used to take Mirtazapine but after a couple of years it stopped working so I had to change to something else.
Sleeping pills do lose effectiveness, which is why doctors do not like prescribing them over long periods, because you end up having to take more for them to work.

If your medications don’t seem to be working for you anymore, you can disuss the issue with your doctor, and change medications.
yes, this happens quite frequently. sometimes people have to switch or have their doseages increased often, until they find what works well for them.
we are all individuals, and each of us has a different “body chemistry”.

Sometimes that happens and sometimes it doesn’t. If you’re feeling depressed or having trouble sleeping, I think you should talk to your doctor to see if you need to increase your dosages or try something different.

I take Trazadone and I have to up the dose at times after a while. Also, my daughter was on Prozac for a few years and it did stop working and the doctor had to change the medication altogether. Yes, I have found in my experience that it does happen.

I would think that if you’ve been taking them that long, you would have developed the tolerance before now. I took Trazadone for a few years and it never stopped working for me, but I wasn’t on it for that long either. You probably should see your doctor about it; you might need an increased dosage or to be switched to different medications.

Your body might build up a slight tolerance, but general speaking when it comes to anti-depressants.. you began taking them to “stabilize” your chemicals, which is what it does. your doctors gets u up to the right dosage and you stay on it if it works out well. so no i do not believe you build a tolerance to anti-depressants.
Now anti-anxiety like Klonopin and Xanax (controlled substances) yes you can. I built up a tolerance over the years. They are made to take you out of the “fight or flight” mood your body goes into when you have an anxiety attack, calming your nerves.. Instant and much stronger.
Sleep aids, not so sure about. Trazadone however you can develop a tolerance for since I was also on it a few years back (and I did, but not major), but not for sleep.
Anything “calming” of your nerves you can develop a tolerance for, but the anti-depressants , nope.
